Excellent news, Dan - I've been musing on how to better manage my own subscription budget, but also how to manage what little outbound digital information I provide to the world. Rebooting my own blog is an undoubted part of that.
Another subscription now in my RSS reader of choice!
Congrats on finishing the semester! Agreed on the limitations of Substack. I’m going to be making some similar shifts. I’ve been maintaining a Ghost website where I wanted to put more permanent writing, but not really pushing anything over there. Substack has taken up too much time and effort. But I’m going to switch to a similar strategy and make Substack more day to day and ephemeral (somewhat like my original Daily Inchoate) plus announcements to the more formal writing which will go on the Ghost site. Substack is really good at some things but not really developing a body of work. I do really wonder about their subscription model too. No way I can afford $50 a year for even the Substacks I really like and would want to support. A New Year is a great time for a rethink. 😎
Thanks, Tracy! I think I'll make a fully linked vault of all my Substack posts. There are over a thousand. Not sure whether to just leave them on Substack indefinitely too, but I don't have to decide that today.
