I'm having some more thoughts about the series of Anton Howes posts I've read recently about the potential replication or reproducibility crisis in History and his suggestion that we adopt a policy of "Open History" where we publish digital collections of our sources.
That last paragraph is spot on. Ultimately, the thing I was trying to say is exactly that we just aren’t allowed to make shit up - that interpretation can only be stretched so far (and I agree that there is still plenty of room for difference of interpretation!)
