So interesting about what's invisible and the need for people, esp. middle and upper class to learn of it through journalism and expose. Also the complexity of society with so many factors at play, from material challenges (getting food to rapidly growing urban populations, to water, to waste disposal) to cultural (immigration, social remediation efforts like Hull House) to economic (rise of corporate power and monopolies) to governmental (Roosevelt as "muscular" leader/reformer -- and imperialist!). What an era to live in. And we think things are fast-changing and chaotic today!
