A theme that I think may be lurking in the background of some of the discussions I've been having with people and things I've been reading lately about education for civic engagement (sometimes, more dramatically described as "saving democracy"), has to do with the question of

And conversation, ad hoc, regular, in person or remote... 'for that title' I feel the only constraint is you are about the same place, even if for some of the 'club' it isn't their first by the author, or even if it isn't the first time for that title.
Dan, congratulations on your grandson on his way :-) As for the Great Conversation, I heartily agree - I think of a BookTok version or movies that update the great works like Clueless (Emma). More than anything, I think the Great Conversation should be about an evolving canon of authors, because what matters is having the conversation.
