Transcript

My first lecture for my online US History course, setting the scene and briefly describing the Americas, Europe, and Africa before the “discovery” of America by the Europeans and subsequent collision of cultures.

The narrative “chapters” serve as a jumping-off place for the primary sources the students read and discuss each week. This week there are a dozen, beginning with an account of Leif Erikson in Vinland and concluding with Richard Hakluyt’s advice to Queen Elizabeth about using America to “abase” Spain.

MakingHistory
Making History is the top-level thing I do, as a historian, teacher, and writer. I create content, based on either original primary research or to present the findings of other historians to my students. This channel will cover several topics I am researching or teaching, and reflections on the ways that history helps us understand our current world.
