I moved into my apartment in Saint Paul yesterday. Packed my car, drove four hours, picked up the keys, and arrived in the early afternoon. This (above) is the view through the front door. It’s a little studio with a closet and bathroom on the lefthand side of the main room and a little kitchen on the right. Nice high ceilings, windows, and hardwood floors.
This photo is looking back at the front door, so the kitchen is through the doorway at the left.
I brought a carload of stuff. Mostly books. I’ll be going back and forth to Bemidji each week, so I’ll just bring more stuff each time I come. Glad I didn’t bring a truckload of stuff all at once, actually. It was a pretty strenuous 75-minute high-intensity workout hauling everything up to the third floor. No elevator in this 1919 building.
First thing I did after humping all those books upstairs was to hang a couple of shower curtains (it’s an old-fashioned tub with a steel hoop) and cool off. Then I went downtown to the Italian market, Cossettas, to get a few supplies for lunch. Hot cappicola, mortadella (the good kind with pistachios), provolone, and rolls. Had a nice sandwich with some balsamic vinegar.
Then I went to Ikea and bought a bed. I’ll go back this morning and get a couple of bookcases (they’re on sale for $69 which is as good as anything I’m seeing on FB Marketplace right now). I brought a desk, so by mid-day I should have a little workspace. Maybe I’ll make a video!
Kindle books are much lighter.
