In this account by Hernando Pizarro, he and his brother Francisco take advantage of a civil war in the Inca Empire to capture and kill Atahualpa, the son of the emperor Huayna Capac. Atahualpa promises (and later delivers) a mountain of gold, but it doesn’t save him.
