Plutocrats Meeting 3
Book Club
In this one we talk about a couple of chapters from each of the books we’re comparing. We also try to apply these ideas to the present. I find myself, somewhat to my surprise, pushing back on some of the things my friends say about the current political situation. I hesitated to post this for a couple of days, I admit, because I don’t want to be misconstrued as being a MAGA supporter. What I do want to do is understand the failures of the “uniparty” that led to the rise of both left and right populism. I also want to understand how Trump and his fellow-travelers either embraced or coopted this movement. And I want to understand what’s happening as a result, using the most accurate info I can find. I’m not convinced that the media I’m watching hasn’t skewed my perspective, just as I’m not convinced the media they’re preferring hasn’t skewed my friends’ perspectives. I hold no opinions about the matter I’m not willing to rethink.

A lot of our discussion was taking place in the written chat also. I didn't perceive it as being so opposing of views as you suggest, Dan. But, if you watch Fox mostly you will certainly get different views than if watch MSNBC.
