199 days to go until I'm unemployed. Sort of feels like this s##t just got real. I said I wanted to take the next hundred days and really push hard at organizing my efforts to publish my content online and see if I can turn that into something. I think the first step toward that is to figure out what I want to say to what audiences. Then I need to get better at making that content available to those audiences. For example, these Retrenchment-turned-Journey daily blog posts are working, to some extent. People are reading them and watching the videos. Generally folks who already knew me and were sort-of interested in my perspective. But I cover a variety of topics in this daily post. Many of them are things I ought to spend more time thinking and writing about. Or, put another way, there are topics that if I gathered the material together and made it available to people in a place and a way they could find it, the information might be useful to them. But they're not finding it because it's buried in a series of posts about my "Journey". Things like my reaction to the politics of the conference I was just at, which I imagine the people to whose ideas I was responding will never know about. Not that I want to get into an argument with them over that; but you get the idea.
So as I'm traveling ten hours today to get home, I'll be spending some time thinking about organizing this material and expanding on it. The audiobook I'm listening to only has about six hours left, so that will give me some hours to ponder things as I'm driving. Then once I’m home I can look through the content I've posted and pull out things I want to expand. This weekend I'll be able to start organizing it and map out a plan.
I'm going to drive a slightly different route today, so I won't necessarily be crossing back into the US at the same place I entered Canada. But I think mostly it will be the same. Although it will be dark for some of it. It's 3:25 AM as I'm writing this, so I'll probably be on the road by 4. And I’ll be driving toward the eastern edge of the Mountain Time Zone, so sunrise will be later than usual for me.
I'm not a writer, so I don't have any advice about that. I can say that your writing is crisp and clear and enjoyable to read, even on subjects which aren't that relevant to me. You have a gift of making things interesting. Drive safe and I hope you enjoy your trip.
